July 08, 2005
According to an announcement by NTT DoCoMo, the company has teamed up with Fujitsu to develop an improved methanol fuel cell for use in 3G mobile phones. The new cell enables 3G phones to operate for eight straight hours. In September 2004 NTT DoCoMo already presented a methanol fuel cell prototype, but after further development NTT DoCoMo and Fujitsu have increased the maximum continuous operating time of the original prototype by three times without increasing its weight of 190g. NTT DoCoMo said it expects the final phase of development to be completed by April 2006.
